There are a lot of reasons why homeowners all over the world think about adding
a swimming pool to their pieces of property. Real estate in Puerto Vallarta
Mexico often includes a pool, due to the high temperatures reached every summer.
Pools are great places to beat the heat, to socialize with family, and even
to get some exercise. They are also great for families with children and teenagers
who seem to be a constantly on the lookout for something to do.
Here in Santa Clarita, the weather is definitely a factor when most people
consider a home with a pool. In fact, you will find a lot of homes in the city
already come with a swimming pool. It doesn't matter if these homes resemble
wedding facilities in Oakville or are modest houses; pools are seen as almost
a necessity in this city and indeed in the whole state.
That said, there are lots of homes in the area which don't include a
pool. Every summer, without exception, the owners of these homes will start
to think about putting a pool in. It's hard to resist the temptation when
the mercury starts to push towards the 100s, but there are some things to consider
when it comes to putting in a pool. Let's look at those considerations
now.
First of all, putting in a swimming pool is not the typical house renovation
project. The pool has to be dug out, landscaped, hooked up to local power and
water supplies, and fitted with all the necessary operating equipment. All this
means that most homeowners won't be able to complete a pool installation
as a do it yourself project.
In fact, installing a pool can become quite expensive. There's a reason
why the typical image of a homeowner with a pool has that person surrounded
by blackberry pouches, fancy cars, and other signs of wealth. The average pool
costs around $60,000 to put in, and that is not including basic features such
as decks and fencing.
If you think that the cost of installing a pool will be offset by the equity
it creates in your home, you need to think again. Comparison of houses with
and without pools in the same neighborhoods shows, over and over again, that
the houses with pools only sell for around $6,000 more than those without. That
is only 10% of the total cost of installation, a bad bargain if you are looking
to cover the costs in a sale!
And as you know, most pools don't just stop with basic installation.
There are all the costs of the supplies, the trip to the nursery supply store
to correctly landscape the yard and deck to match the pool, and the regular
maintenance costs.
If you live in Santa Clarita in a house that currently does not include a swimming
pool, it is best to think twice before installing one. The cost of the installation
can never really be recouped, which means that pools count as luxury items only.
Better for homeowners to make the trip to the beaches just a half hour away
and rent a boat with a shoal draft keel all summer than to incur all the expenses
that come with a swimming pool!
