Based on statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (June 2003), Santa Clarita is the 5th safest city among cities in California of at least 100,000 in population. Based on cities with a population of at least 150,000 people, Santa Clarita is the safest in California and as well as in the country. With the opening of Central Park, its largest park to date, the City of Santa Clarita recognizes that parks are often the heart of local neighborhoods, serving as gathering places for civic organizations, community groups, families and friends.
The parks serve as recreational, social and cultural centers for California's communities providing important venues for youth enrichment and safety, community identity, protection of natural and historic sites and parkland and open space.
